Vertigo / Bhram

Vertigois a condition in which any person loses the power of balancing himself.Sometimes it is Neuro-muscular disease. Generally it becomes due to :

DOMESTIC REMEDY:

  • Depression and Tension
  • Weakness
  • Irregular food habit
  • Excessive exertion
  • Insomnia(Anidra)
  • Psycho and somatic factor
  • Due to some medicines reaction

REGIMEN:

  • Avoid Hard working and take rest.
  • Avoid alcohol, spicy food, coffee-tea etc.
  • Take Bhrami powder 3 gm twice a day.
  • Olive oil or Coconut oil should be used for massaging the head and soles of the feet at night.

Insomnia /Anidra

Insomnia is a symptom in which patient complains sleeplesness at night. He is unable to sleep. Some times patient feels headach vertigo. It is due to Indigestion or constipation. It is a mental disorder.

CAUSES:

  • Tension or Depression
  • Irregular food habits
  • Psycho and somatic factor
  • Emotional upsets

REGIMEN:

  • Before going to bed, have a head massage with oil.
  • Aswagandha root powder 3 gm to be taken at the night with milk.
  • Avoid spicy food, alcohol, tea-coffee etc.

Epilepsy /Apasmar

Epilepsy is a disorder in which the person has a tendency to have seizures or fits. In acute attack sometimes sudden loss of conciousness.

REGIMEN:

  • Mental strain should be avoided.
  • Open air exercises in the morning.
  • Patient should be kept always busy.
  • Green vegitables, fruit juices and early digestible food should be given.
  • Powder of vach 3 gm bd with honey for two year
  • Massage of the head and soles of the feet daily with medicated oil also contributes to a quick recovery from this trouble.

Hysteria

Hysteria connected with neurotic or emotional factors. The purpose of hysteria is to attract the attention of the people and gain sympathy. It has been described in ayurveda under Manas Roga.

CAUSES:

  • Family worries
  • Excessive activities
  • Irregular food habits
  • Tension or Depression

SYMPTOMS:

  • Convulsion and Seizures
  • Contractions of the limbs
  • Loss of sensation over areas of the body .

INVESTIGATIONS:

  • Haemograme
  • B.Sugar
  • Urea and Bilirubin
  • CT Scan of Brain
  • EEG -Urine RE .

REGIMEN:

  • Walking in the morning helpful for these patients.
  • Patient should be advised to have full night sleep.
  • Hot and spicy food should be avoided.
  • Mental strain should be avoided.
  • Fried things and pulses are not good for patients.
  • Almond oil 5ml mixed with a cup of milk at bed time good for these patients.
  • Apple,Orange,Mangoes,Papaya and Grapes are useful in this condition.

Loss of Memory

Loss of memory is a symptom which affacts the remembring or learning power. Sometimes Temporary loss of memory, in which patient forgets even his own identity, may be the result of an injury.

Causes:

  • Stress disorder.
  • Tumour of Brain
  • Syphilis,AIDS
  • Chronic Alcoholism
  • Irregular food habits

REGIMEN:

  • Mental stress should be avoided.
  • Meditation correcting and promoting memory.
  • Amalki or Bhrami powder useful in loss of memory.
  • Avoid weight lifting or any heard work.

Paralytic Afflictions

Paralytic Afflictions in Ayurveda is known as Pakshaghat. Paralytic Afflictions means loss of muscular power due to interference with the nervous system. It depends on the disease of the brain, spinal cord or nerves: hense the terms- cerebral, spinal and peripheral paralysis.When muscular power is weakned as the result of some affection of the nervous system, the term applied is paralysis. Various technical names of the disease are:

Hemiplegia:Affecting one part of the face along with the arm and leg.

Diplegia:Affecting the upper or lower limbs.

Monoplegia:Paralysis of a single limb.

Paraplegia:Signifies paralysis of both sides of the body below a given level, usually from about the level of the waist.

Creping paralysis:That term applied most ofen to locomotor ataxia.

Shaking paralysis:It is popular name for paralysis agitans.

Wasting paralysis:Commonly means progressive muscular atrophy.

REGIMENS:

  • In constipation take Harad powder 3 gm at sleeping time.
  • Avoid much heavy,sweet,sour,salty and spicy food.
  • Do a morning massage with medicated oils.
  • Patient is advised to undergo Ayurvedic physician.

Cramps

Cramps are involuntry and painfull contractions of the voluntary muscles or a group of muscles. Which occuring most frequentily in the limbs and also affects the some internal organs. The muscles of the fingers and the forearms are seized with cramps. Sometimes the fingers, instead of being cramped, move in a disordered fashoin and the pen can not be grasped.

REGIMENS:

  • Affected hand should be massaged with medicated oil.
  • Hot fomentation with salt gives relief.
  • If patient constipated, then relieves it.
  • Patient should not expose himself to cold wind or rain

Sciatica / Gridhrishi

Sciatica is a common form of neuralgia or nervous pain. In Ayurveda this is known as Gridhrasi. It experienced in the regoin of buttocks, back of the thigh and the leg served by sciatic nerve. The patient experiences difficulty in walking.

REGIMENS:

  • Curd, pulses, beans, spicy food and fried things are strictly prohibited.
  • Gentle exercise of leg is useful. Jumping and running is prhibited.
  • The patient should bathe in hot water and not use cold water in any form.
  • At the time of returning to bed, take 20ml caster oil used to remove constipation.

Shira Shool / Headache /Migraine

Headache is a common complaint. Good majority of headaches are quit harmless. Physical and psychic factors are responsible for this disease.

CAUSES:

  • Defective eye-sight
  • Inflammation of sinus.
  • High blood pressure.
  • Sleeplessness in night
  • Tumour in the brain.
  • Indigestion or constipation.

REGIMENS:

  • Avoid exposer to excessive heat, cold or rain.
  • Avoid mental stress and strain
  • Yoga and meditation is helpful
  • Before going to bed, have a head massage with oil

Facial Palsy / Ardit

When patient feels the face to be stiff and experiences difficulty in moving it. Facial parleys due to lesion in facial nerve, parotitis, carries, associated with otitis media, toxemic neuritis or due to any injury on mastoid and may be due to exposure to cold.

SYMPTOMS:

  • Pain behind the ear
  • Corneal reflex absent. -Inability to blow and to smile
  • Eye of the affected side can not be closed
  • Mouth drawn over the opposite side

REGIMENS:

  • Facial massage and exercise benificial
  • Protection from cold and avoid chilled item
  • Cow's milk useful for patient
  • Pulses of any type and their preparations not better for the patient

Paraplegia / Urustambha

Paraplegia paralysis of both sides of the body below a given level, usually from about the level of the waist.Generally it is due to spinal injury, fracture, dislocation of vertebra, prolapse disc, tumour in spinal cord or T.B.of spinal cord. There may be pain and stiffness in both the thigh.

REGIMENS:

  • Avoid exposure to cold and Legs should be kept warm in cold seasons.
  • Avoid alchohol, spicy food and cold things like ice-cream, coca-cola, iced beer etc.

Kampavat / Parkinson's Disease

Parkinson's Disease in ayurveda known as Kampvat. It is Neuro-muscular disease which affects the nervous system. It becomes due to degeneration of the cells of basal ganglion. Kampvat common in old age and males are more affected then women. Exact cause is unknown, there is no evidence that Parkinson's disease is hereditary.

REGIMENS:

  • Avoid spicy food, pickles, hot drinks, smoking, tobbacco and alchohol
  • In yoga such as Dhanuration, Pawan muktasan, Bhujangasan, Shawasan and Pranayam gives relief
  • Massage with medicated oil is benificial

Unmad / Psychosis

Unmad /Psychosis is a psychiatric disorder. In which the person has conduct the tendency of stimulation. In acute attack sometimes sudden loss of conciousness. It is emotional reaction and drametic form. The purpose of unmad is to attract the attention of the people and gain sympathy.

REGIMENS:

  • Mental strain should be avoided
  • Open air exercises in the morning
  • Patient should be kept always busy
  • Spicy and Hot Food should be avoid
  • Green vegitables, fruit juices and early digestible food should be given
  • Powder of vach and jatamanshi 3 gm bd with honey for one year
  • Massage of the head and soles of the feet daily with medicated oil also contributes to a quick recovery from this trouble

Ardhavbhedak/Migraine

Headache is a common complaint.In this condition patient feels pain in any part of the head. Some times it is effected by sun-rays. Good majority of headaches are quit harmless. Physical and psychic factors are responsible for this disease.

SCHIZOPHRENIA

Schizophrenia is a nervous disorder. In which the person has conduct the tendency of stimulation. Irregularity in food and constipation often aggravate the condition. In acute attack sometimes sudden loss of conciousness. Sometimes patient is unable to sleep, talks and acts incoherently, and often becomes violent.

REGIMENS:

  • Mental strain should be avoided
  • Open air exercises in the morning
  • Pulses, beans and Spicy hot food should be avoided
  • Green vegitables, fruit juices and early digestible food should be given
  • Shirodhara and meditation is best therpy for Schizophrenia
  • Sarpgandha, Vach and Jatamanshi powder useful in this condition

Depression /Avshad

Depression is a common problem of humen being. Physical and psychic factors are responsible for this diseases.

Causes:

  • Emotional upsets
  • High Blood Pressure
  • Mental stress and strain
  • Sleeplessness in night
  • Indigestion or constipation

REGIMENS:

  • Mentally stress and strain should be avoided
  • Yoga and meditation are useful in this condition
  • Before going to bed massage of head is benifictial
